01. Skream : Hedd Banger / Percression. (Tectonic)
With Hedd Banger Skream announces a coming back to deep dark and heavy Dubstep stuff but it’s all about Percression for me. The minimal techno dubstep crossover is brilliant here due to an amazing groove in the beat. That one is deep but so dancefloor orientated at the same time without the shadow of an aggressive mid range wobble. Masterpiece imho !

02. Peverelist : Clunk Click Every Trip / Gather. (Punch Drunk)
Peverelist is one of the Bristol sound don ! He is probably one of the most inspired artist which is developing that crossover between deep Detroit Techno sounds and Dubstep. « Clunk Click Every Trip » is one of the best track in the genre ever been released ! With « Gather » Tom Pev is also showing us his love for roots reggae and dub vibes. Deep skanker !

03. RSD : Over It / Forward Youth. (Tectonic)
Bristol again ! Rob Smith is a legend and a living one ! From his Smith & Mighty background there was just one step for him to be back with fresh stuff and thank God he did it ! This EP is my favorite of this guy, as both tunes are deep but so dancefloor friendly. « Over it » is built around a beat made of 2 step and halfstep elements with some techno 4x4 energy. Heavy bassline and some discreet reggae dub samples here and there. Straight to the point ! « Forward Youth » is so uplifting with its mad psychedelic dub environment. Truly original and mental !

04. Coki / Chefal : Bloodthirst / Electro Bashment. (Sub Freq)
Let's go back to London with 2 originators in the dubstep sound. But here let me focus on the Coki tune which is my very favorite of all of his tunes. This one is dark, moody and brings the dub music to something really unique. The second part of the tune brings some crazy melodies which are melancholic and so beautiful. This one is played in each and every of my live sets since I got it. Perfection here !

05. Helixir : Narcotik Dub / Springz & Wires. (7even recordings)
Time to salute one of the best dubstep label of this last year which is based in France.
Greg G is bringing some amazing stuff by very talented French producers like F, Likhan and Helixir.
I've been playing this Helixir EP a lot this year even I got a preference for Narcotik Dub which is mixing a bit of breakstep and dubstep influences. So much details in the Helixir productions which is a master for beats and textures building. For your personal info there is a dubplate around with Juakali singing on top of this massive tune ! Let's just hope it will be released too. Amazing !

06. Meat Beat Manifesto : Lonely Soldier. (Planet Mu)
Being a fan of Meat Beat Manifesto since 1988 it was a real and good surprise to see Jack Dangers experimenting with the dubstep sound. Even I do recognize Jack is normally a pioneer and not a follower we can say this EP taken of his album « Autoimmune » is for sure one of the more experimental things that I played on the radio show. Mental ! No doubt !

07. TRG : Broken Heart / Put You Down – Remixes. (Hessle Audio)
Sure 08 is the year who revealed the Romanian don to planet earth even it is been a long time the guy is making dubstep tunes. Hessle Audio was the label who decided to put TRG stuff out with first the original of version « Broken Heart » which is absolutely big but they stroke back with something even better (if that's possible) by releasing the wonderful and hugely acclaimed « Broken Heart - Martyn's DCM Remix » which became an anthem really quick. Kode 9 was playing the dubplate for long in each and every of his sets. That means a lot…

08. Coleco / Sharmaji Ft. Maggie Horn : Campfire Funk / Break Your Heart. (Soul Motive)
This one is probably the latest 08 release in this top 10 but man the Coleco tune is WONDERFUL ! This one is kicking out all the styles barriers mixing heavy funk but also orchestral elements to the heavy bassline. The groove here is monstrous and could wake up dead people. A diamond of melodies and dance energy ! Huge !

09. Jakes & Joker : 3K Lane (H.E.N.C.H Recordings)
A 2008 top 10 without mentioning Joker would be a very big mistake. This young boy is probably one of the last brilliant Grime artist and surely one of the Wonky sound pioneer with his typical use of mad mad synths. I picked up this one as it is really a dancefloor killer making some damages as a dubplate since a long time. This one is a sort of mashup of 2 previously existing beats made separately by both Jakes and Joker. So this one is a winner and works every time u drop it in parties ! Banger !

10. Grimelock / Saviour : Glow / Darkness Fall / Justice / Stampede. (Stainage)
Last but not least the family thing ! It's been a while that I am playing those tunes as dubplates and it is good to see them getting released this end of 08. Stampede and Darkness Fall are big bangers mashing up the crowds everywhere I dropped them from Pennsylvania to Budapest or in the UK. Everyone requesting Saviour tunes during my sets all over the world ! Glow is surely one deep and efficient gem as well and Justice is kicking it big time with its mad drop ! Watch out for 09 as tunes by Alchemyst and some more Stainage crew goodies are about to be released ! Respect to the Brussels gang !
